Interesting. Some of the devices I've seen on e.g. ebay or amazon appear to enclose the egg. Surely this would prevent any 'coating of the microwave'...?

yes a plastic lid with 2 clips encloses the egg, but as Michael Cane would have said, "I only told you to blow the ****** lid off"

The exploding egg managed to open the plastic cover no problemo.:rotfl:

I have one of those twin microwave poachers. Got mine from Lakeland some years ago. The egg yolk is hard by the time you have got the white to set, so I can't say its ideal.

The cling film suggested above sounds like a good idea. I'll try it.

Tried the method using cling film. Unfortunately, the egg white stuck to the cling film so it's back to the drawing board.

I just mix my egg in a little cup then give the cup 40 seconds in the microwave, not really poached but a bit like it, and better than fried,

  • I second the cling film method! I brush a little oil on to the clingfilm before cracking the egg to pervent sticking.
