Help with Paypal chargeback please

I sold an aftershave set for £60 on 12th November, sent the item recorded delivery. Heard nothing else.

I have just had an e-mail from Paypal about a chargeback as "buyer did not authorise payment". I firstly thought it was a scam e-mail as I had never heard of such a thing, but a Google search suggests it can be a scam and seems quite unlikely I'll receive my item or money back :(

Paypal have asked for as much information as possible. Beyond the tracking information, what else should I include?

I haven't had any communication from buyer on eBay, nor does eBay seem to be registering anything about a refund. Is it worth contacting them?

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it likely I'll win the case? Or is my item and money gone forever?

I have sold on eBay for over 10 years and never experienced this. If I don't win, I will never sell on eBay or use Paypal again, not that either will care of course :(

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :T

For an 'unauthorised' charge back you must show proof of postage, so upload your copy of the signed for receipt in the PayPal case. Assuming item was eligible for seller protection you will not lose your money, it may take a couple of weeks for PayPal to sort it.

I also add a note to the dispute reminding PayPal that I have full seller protection, and I often phone them as well.

  • Thank you soolin. I will do that.

Is seller protection just posting to the address on Paypal and having proof of postage?

Any positive experiences of this in the past?

Proof of postage to the address given on the paypal receipt is all that is needed.

I've successfully defended at least 10 chargebacks using this.

There is also the requirement to post within 7 days.

I've never lost one of these chargebacks yet but do keep an eye on the dispute in PayPal.

paypal seller protection is your right under their terms and conditions, it is not a goodwill gesture. As long as your item was eligible for seller protection and you provide proof of postage to the correct address you cannot lose.

If you go to the PO anyway then proof of postage is free so no need to limit it to more expensive items only.

with this you will be fine. Upload a photograph of the receipt clearly showing tracking number and delivery post code. then enter the trackinh details into paypal. Once i have done this i get on the phone to paypal, and that cancel the chargeback.

The chargeback cannot be cancelled. It is either proven or not.

Proof of posting is sufficient in this case, but tracking is an added benefit.

OP, as other posters have said, upload your proof of posting, if you have tracking then add that too (or your 'signed for' POD number).

If your item was eligible (tangible and not on the exempt list), posted within 7 days and was posted to the address on the transaction (with the paperwork outlined above) you will win.

Just as an aside, 'recorded delivery' no longer exists.
