Is my furniture moving plan doable?

Apologies, put it on this board thought it better.

Got a cheap man with man booked but its a single person so won't be able to do the heavier things, off hand not sure what that will be as I will need to help, as im going from 1st floor to ground floor though the van itself is one of those that has that lifting thing at back.

Im leaving my old fashioned tvs to be picked up by a different firm, and maybe my freezer (that also means I don't have to worry about food defrosting) and anything that is going to be awkward to carry and over the next week until people arrive will take what I can across as the property is 9 minutes walk from old place.

Also means I can come back and cook as new place has no cooker yet

And a friend is coming over for new year so can pick up anything I forgot.

So is this the best plan?

Apologise if this is better on another board.

Of course you could say the best plan is pay a high amount for a proper removal firm but in the circumstances.

  • It depends on how much stuff you have, and how big/heavy it is to move.

As you talk about leaving some stuff at the old place and going back there as well as getting other removals people to move large TVs and fridges etc it is unclear what you are moving. I have been involved in friends moves that have involved a man with a van, and that has been ueful for moving boxes and small bits of furnature as well as stuff that can be taken down into flat pack etc.

One thing to be aware of is be you should be clear what the arrangement with the guy with the van is, some will only load/unload the van and won't for example help carry items downstairs, others will get totally involved, I have seen both types of people and the people who had booked the van were surprised/disappointed that the guy wouldn't help get things downstairs, fortunately there have always been enough of us for it not to be a problem.

I was told the lifting heavy furniture wasnt offcial (though moving the items is) hence me wanting to leave the very heavy things which offhand are just the tv, washing machine, the fridge may be doable as its on wheels, same for chest freezer but I would rather leave that here so that way can cook at old place until I get a cooker.

That way on the 2nd man with van visit they can take the other things

Yes I will help what I can, Im a big guy so strong so as long as its not awkward to carry in terms of distribution of weight should be no problem.

I estimate the sofas to be easy to move, moved some old ones downstairs myself in past, and the beds are both made of 2 halfs which is why I think the wardrobes (well its 2 wardrobes and 1 cabinet) will be the only struggle due to weight distribution.

I totally agree with @ exiled_red; make sure you have a helping hand (friend, family, etc.), especially if you have heavier items to carry downstairs; been there, done this, but would not do it on my own anymore. So it is worth to keep this in mind.
