Lights and ceiling

We have knocked down the wall between our kitchen and dining room.

The ceiling will need replastering, and we also want to replace the two current ghastly lights (including one of those 1980s fluorescent tubes) with LED spotlights in the ceiling.

Daft question, but do I get the lighting done first then ceiling skimmed, or the ceiling skimmed first after removing old lights and then have new lights out in?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

The electrician lays the first fix cables for the new lights.

    The plasterer does the plastering.

Electrician comes back to second fix with the light fittings.

Hmmmm, is there no way to simplify this down to two visits? Or once the correct cables are in place, and the ceiling has been plastered, can I not then fit the lights myself??

Not unless you want a ridiculous bodge or plaster all over your new lights. You can't attach fittings to a sparky's bare wires either.

I've never had a client complain about us doing things properly.

You can, if you know what you're doing.

When we had wall lights fitted in our bedroom i had the electricians do all the first fix, channelling out the walls, fixing all the cabling in conduit and connecting it up to the lighting circuit. Once the plastering was done and the room decorated I fitted the light fixtures and wires up the remote control dimmers in the loft myself.
