i have the same problem here they charge me £8 ptescription plus £42.50 penalty charge which 5 times the prescription itself.
they are very strict and helpful i am not on benefit or so i am hard working with basic salry of 21K.
I begg them to remove the penalty charge they refused they told me this legislation agreed by the house of common and there is no way to temove the charge while other people on benefit and icome support getting every thing for free.
This not fair on working people they should at least remove the penalty charge so every one can afford pay for ptescription

You earn £21k.. did you declare that on the prescription form?
  • Dont even try it they ask me to go to my local MP and if i dont pay they will take me to court.
I told them it is not intentionally happend and not every one is aware of your service they should make it clear to the public
they are robbing hard working people money.

To the OP - not you are not exempt, ask you chemist about the 'season tickets' If you have more than 3 scrips a month they will save you money.

Why should they remove the penalty charge, you are not on the related benefits and earn more than the income required for the low income scheme, just because someone else gets something for free does not mean that you should, I would suggest instead of complaining about what other people get, that you actually investigate how you can get your costs down, the information is out there, it even mentions it on the back of the tear off page you get with your prescription, it has the phone number and website info as well but I will post a link to help you

What do you mean that not everyone is aware, YOU sign the declaration on the back and YOU agree that the information you have given is correct and you give consent by signing that declaration to having that information disclosed to amongst other agencies the counter fraud agency.

Also every Pharmacy I have been too recently has posters on the wall about who is exempt and who is not plus leaflets.

You are not being robbed hard working or not

The list of exemption categories is on the back of the prescription form and you must have ticked one of the boxes and signed the form. You can't do that accidentally, it's a deliberate action. What more do you think other people can do to prevent you providing wrong information?
The people 'robbing hard working people' are those who try to cheat the system.

Zwolle, you claimed a benefit to which you were not entitled, so why should you not be fined ? If there was no penalty, everyone would be free to cheat.

It's your job to pay what you should. You didn't. Perfectly entitled to charge you

No idea but thyroid related scripts should always be free due to being an exempted condition, check here http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/HealthCosts/1126.aspx

For the sake of anyone reading, with hypothyroidism all prescriptions are free, regardless of whether it is thyroid related or not.
