Slow solicitor advice

A very bad move. No sensible executor would accept the job with such a restriction. The executor is personally liable if they get it wrong so to prevent them getting advice is counterproductive.Sevennotemode wrote: »Sad to hear of your hassle at a sad time.
Prepare yourself for his bill - they are notoriously greedy with probate and estate administration as the client is deceased and now they have a free hand to charge what they like.
I have put a paragraph in my will which states that no solicitor or 'legal person' is to be allowed within barge pole length of my estate when I am gone.0 -
The one crumb of comfort is that the solicitor's delay in selling the shares may have worked in your favour as it's likely their value will have increased since he could have first sold them last June. FTSE then was about 6300 & is now about 7250. Although individual shares will have changed by a different percentage it gives an indication. Probate value will be their value in Feb 16, when FTSE was about 6000.
Hope it gets sorted soon.0 -
Thanks again for all your advice.
I emailed the solicitor this evening asking for a meeting when I am next back in the locality at the end of month. Bearing in mind that probate was obtained in June, and the estate has no debt/mortgages, is just under IT threshold, the delay has been baffling. Personally I think he forgot to sell the shares.
I have asked for:
1. A meeting at the end of this month to discuss a timeline for this case and what is drawing this out
2. A completion to this by the end of the month if possible and therefore no meeting necessary0
