I must be out of touch. In my experience, albeit many years ago, the op's insurance company should claim via the third party's insurance company if it's their fault.
That doesn't stop you having to pay your excess ( uninsured loss) up front and having any unprotected Ncd ( temporarily) reduced till your insurer gets fully reimbursed ( which can be a pain if your renewal comes due before your lost ncd is reinstated)
If liability is cut and dried with the third party then much better not to claim off your own policy.
Either claim directly off the third party insurer or use an accident management company to do it for you if you don't want to diy.0 -
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for posting about your experience, I'm sorry to hear you've had an accident and I hope all involved are recovering well. When looking at total loss payouts we will calculate a type of average of the top three independent guides like Glass. It isn't worked out on how much you paid although it's helpful to know as part of understanding how best to service your claim. To learn more, just get in touch with the third party team free on 0800 035 4260 or alternatively you can email motorclaims@hastingsdirect.com if you prefer.
Many thanks,
