My advice is not going to be well received , but hey ho buy a cheap and/or refurbished laptop and install a linux distro.

Only thing that's put this Luddite off is the lack HDD space. I have over 250 gb in use on my laptop. I do use cloud accounts and back up drives but do like having everything stored locally0

I don't rate them, and I'm a google ecosystem user. They are fine for basic web browsing and simple tasks, but anything else becomes impossible or a nightmare. For example, last time I used my HP chromebook you had to set up google cloud printing to be able to print. No option to just connect to a printer on your LAN. Absolute deal breaker for me - now I use my laptop for tasks, my tablet for casual browsing.0

If printing isn't an issue and you mainly want to use the internet, Chromebooks are brilliant. Fast, simple and cheap.0
