I'm not the OP & the incident I described was my fault so if I had claimed on my insurance for the damage I caused to the other vehicle surely I would have had to pay an excess??




With regards to not declaring an accident being against the T+C of insurers.. I accept this is fact and was aware of this and the risk of not telling them. I think most people would make an informed decision dependent on the circumstances.

No, as explained previously, you don't pay any excess on claims from third parties. Your insurance deals with the claim, (assuming you are to blame), you do not pay any excess.


Read up in your policy which claims you do (and which you do not) have any excess to pay

Thanks for explaining that.


I guess I've been lucky that I've never had to claim on motor insurance in 30 years of driving and just assumed that the excess would have to be paid for any claim.
