You can borrow mine - it's longer than yours.
OP - more information needed.
Or if you insist on an answer: between 1 week and 5.5 months.0 -

We're jesting.
It really does depend on your area. And more importantly what the searches throw up. It really is a question for your solicitor. You did go for a local one yes?0 -
Sorry I'm new too all this FTB, Yes the solicitor works at the same firm as my mothering law! We are in the bury coucil area and online says the respond to searches within 6/7 working days, so does it then depend on if there are any enquiries ?
I'm just worried as I we need to exchange by the 10th Jan for my sons school application as we are moving areas. We are FTB and the sellers all ready have there house to no chain really just me and them.0 -
The area I'm buying in say they will complete searches within 10-15 days. (I presume working days). But we're on day 17 now, and no searches have been returned, so it really is hard to tell!
If your solicitor knows you need to exchange by the 10th they should be working toward that - ask them for an update, if you haven't already?Mortgage - £[STRIKE]68,000 may 2014[/STRIKE] 45,680.0 -
Looks like the last of our searches came back on 4 October and he started searches on 19 September.
We just completed last Friday, but we had a mess with part of our garden belonging to the Council.0 -
Thou can assume mine - it's greater than yours.0

I found out when I bought that It's not how long the searches take that matters, it's when the solicitor applies for them. They told me the leasehold pack was taking ages and always did and yet when I rang the council they said they'd had no application yet but when they did it would be done within 48 hours.
Once I'd moved in and I could look back at all the dates on the paperwork I could see that the searches were done within 24 hours, the leasehold pack was done in 48 hours and everything else took just days. It was the solicitor that slowed everything down by insisting on sending everything in second class post and paying for everything with cheques.0
