Currys EX-Display kettle.

Hi, what are your views on this please I've just been to visit my mother today, and she was telling me her kettle (Russell Hobbs) packed in.

The good news for her is that it was still within the two-year guarantee.

First, she phoned Currys customer service gave them the details from the receipt they said okay no problem take it to your local Currys to exchange for a new one

The never had the same kettle, so she got a different kettle and paid the difference, and the young lad said this is the last one its ex-display she asked for discount, but the lad said sorry I couldn't do a discount

What do you MSE people think do you think he should have gave my mum a discount.

Not sure they are allowed to sell ex-display electrical items unless they have been safety checked first.

I personally wouldn't be happy to pay full price for something ex-display but let's face it a display kettle would never have been used. Although some shops do discount the price on the ticket when it is end of line so although she paid the ticket price if it was end of line that may already be lower than rrp to allow for it being display.

Yes they are, there is no law preventing it, everything they sell will eventually go end of line and be sold off. The company I work for never tests ex display electricals unless damaged and need the safety check.

I bought my Roth active speakers as ex-demo from Richer Sounds, who often have open box and ex-demo sales.

If she didn't like the ex-display kettle at the price offered she could have opted to select a different replacement kettle.

I wouldn't expect a discount, but I would throughly inspect it before buying it to make sure it wasn't damaged. Like others have said it won't have been used!.
  • I doubt a display kettle will ever have had any water in it, let alone have been plugged in!

However, if it was "shop-soiled" I would expect a discount or simply refuse to accept it.

Unless it was marked or damaged there's no real reason to expect discount on X display items if you get a discount it's a bonus, also most people our happy with X display without asking for discount every time they buy clothes and shoes and God know how many people have tried them on beforehand.
