  • Uno or Jenga but I reckon with our one year old DGD this may have to be put on hold for a few years.

  • We played Cranium last year and it was hilarious. You do need teams as there are some challenges with team work but it could be played with all ages, was clean fun and gave everybody a chuckle.
We play Risk but my mum gets super competitive and tends to annihilate us all, Monopoly is always won by the kids and I love Cluedo as I'm good at it so nobody wants to play that! We also used to play Whot or Uno, again for any age and easy to learn.
I bought an old game - Perfection - off ebay and we play that. It's just a shape sorting game where you set the timer and have to place all the shapes before 30 seconds is up otherwise it all pops out. The timer is really loud so the pressure builds and your hands get more fiddly. Another game which can be played by all ages and is funnier the more you drink!
  • Check out boardgamegeek. Great site and I've got several games that were recommended on there. For up to seven players, I think the best game out there is Seven Wonders. Brilliant card-draughting game, beautifully illustrated and each game lasts about 30 minutes so you can play for a short period or have multiple games.

Carcassonne is also excellent. Buy the extensions if you want to play with more than five players.

I've bought exploding cats as a present for one of my siblings this year so hoping it will be good!
