Mis-sold a PPI Claim by Harringtons Advisory

Hi,
Normally, it is people being mis-sold PPI. In my case, I have been mis-sold a PPI investigation to submit a claim.
Harringtons Advisory cold-called me offering to do a PPI research and submit a claim for me and I was taken in by this phone call - I normally manage to ignore them and hang up.
On the call, I told the agent that I was substantially in arrears with a bank loan and I had never claimed PPI back as I expected the bank would not be obliged to pay out because of this debt. The agent assured me the bank couldn't withhold money like that and they would have to pay out if I was owed a PPI claim.
It turns out that I was owed a reasonable amount of money in mis-sold PPI payments, but, I was right; the bank kept all of the money awarded to me to put towards the debt.
Now Harringtons are chasing me for their 49% fee to be paid because as far as they are concerned, it was a success on their behalf. Obviously, as I wasn't paid the PPI claim, I don't have the kind of money that Harringtons are expecting me to pay them.
They have been harassing me every day on the phone and sending heavily-worded demand letters.
I feel completely duped and now have two debts instead of one. Does anyone know where I might stand with this?

Your outcome was always going to happen. So, you were mis-sold by the claims company. You should put in a formal complaint stating that you told them you were in arrears but the person said you would still get the money. The CMC should then have withdrawn its service or at the very minimum issues a warning that you could be billed money despite never receiving it cash in hand.Does anyone know where I might stand with this?
You should be successful in your complaint. If they reject it then you refer it to the legal ombudsman. Harringtons have an awful reputation and are well known for being dodgy in their calls.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thank you dunstonh for your reply and helpful advice. I will take this course of action and escalate to the ombudsman if I have problems.
Thank you.0 -

Or are you just refusing to pay them because they have been denied authorisation by the regulator?
You haven't said here or in your duplicate thread and your answer will determine whether you actually can complain..0
