No claims bonus query

Hi,
I have 9 years no claims bonus from my car insurer previous to the one I'm with now, and 1 year from my current insurer. They are on two separate documents but the dates match up to make 10 years. There was a payment dispute with my current insurer - it's all sorted out now but they have only issued me with 1 year NCB, rather than the 10 I'm now entitled to. I don't particularly want to chase it up them because their customer service is dire!

I am currently looking for a new policy - can I submit the two documents to make it up to the 10 years to my new insurer?

Any advice welcomed! Thanks :)

have you asked your new potential insurers?

No not yet. I wondered whether there was a general policy saying that all the years need to be declared on the same form before I make a fool of myself! And I haven't chosen a new one yet, so I don't want to ask each one separately if they're all going to give the same stock answer

    HI,
see the post I just posted on this board.
I'm having a problem with Tesco not recognising two seperate documents. the service advisors are terrible, and wont even entertain a conversation on the subject matter.
    Frustrating!

There are no set rules on how insurers handle NCD. It's actually little more than a marketing gimmick which was originally designed to encourage you to stick with the same insurer year after year so you get your bonus - albeit it no longer works like that now that insurers will match their rivals' NCDs in order to poach their rivals' customers.

The staring point would be that a new insurer will match whatever your current insurer is offering you - as that's what they need to do to coax you away from your current insurer. If you explain the situation and can show evidence of more claims free years than your renewal notice credits you with then new insurers might credit you with those extra years - but you'd have to ask them as each company's approach will be different. Alternatively you could bite the bullet and hassle your old insurer for corrected proof of your NCD, which will probably make life simpler once you get it.

You would have to explain everything to any new insurer you went to and see if they will accept you have 10 years rather than one.

But why aren't you pursuing this with the previous insurer who looks to have made an error?
