  • Is it her own property? Has she applied for a crisis loan?

Only if you agree to Homecare 200 at £22 per month - see here

OP you need to provide much more info to get any meaningful help e.g. make, model, problem etc. It may be a simple solution that you could help with.

When does something that breaks down need pre-existing cover for repair! Just get it repaired!

Unless the fault gives a code you can look up in the manual, just look up a local gas safe registered engineer.

Ask them to come out and diagnose and look at repair options.

Do not go with British Gas. They will just condemn the thing and pressure your mother to spend a lot on a new boiler.

In the future, put aside £15 a month for any future boiler repairs. Do not dign up to expensive boiler cover schemes. They will just take the £15 a month you could save yourself.

Furthermore, your mother should already be getting a local engineer to come and do a yearly service.

May be as simple as switch off at the mains and switch on again.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Perhaps the thermocouple needs changing - the part itself is only a tenner - but you will need a qualified Gas Safe Engineer to do the job. As stated above, perhaps give some details as to type of bolier, age, etc.. so others can offer some tips.

No, they do a one off, independant repair.....

a fixed price repair is never going to cover anything expensive, a gas valve can be over £100 for the part, a PCB the same or more.

make, model and details of fault would be helpful.

I'm sure that others can read the link even if you can't!

BG will charge that much for a quote to fix, even if you decline their offer.
