Can someone look at this for me (Ian?)

This link is for NSL patient transport to NHS hospitals etc

The call cost stated does not tie up with anything on the BT prices page. As I read it the cost is 11p per minute + service charge and no set up fee?

http://www.nsl.co.uk/contact/nept/

Click on Patient transport and then choose Lincolnshire PTS.

Does the link agree with Ofcom regulations regarding 084 numbers?

PS I have tried substituting 0343 to the number with no joy.
Thanks

The call cost for a number starting 0843 357 is 7p per minute plus your phone provider's Access Charge.
Service Charges can be checked at: http://checkit.uboss.com/

Ofcom and ASA rules require that wording be placed next to the number, everywhere it is advertised or promoted. The rules:
    Ofcom: http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/telephone/businesscalling
    ASA: https://www.cap.org.uk/Advice-Training-on-the-rules/Advice-Online-Database/Chargeable-08-numbers-General.aspx
Be sure to complain to ASA about the incorrect and misleading call costs.

The Access Charge varies depending on which provider is used to make the call. From landlines it can be from 2p to 12p per minute, most are around 11p per minute. From mobiles it can be from 5p to 55p per minute, most are around 45p to 55p per minute.
Access Charges can be seen at: http://www.saynoto0870.com/costofcalling.php

There is a more important point. NHS services should not be using a number that imposes an additional service charge on callers to the benefit of the called party and their telecoms provider.

NSL lost the contract for Kent and Medway for poor performance and for pulling stupid stunts such as using a premium rate number. NSL are not unaware of the issue as one area specified they must use an 03 number. Be sure to complain to your local Healthwatch, CCG and MP.

You might want to involve your local paper. Usage of a premium rate number is ripping off elderly and vulnerable NHS patients.
  • Thanks Ian. Looks expensive 7p + 7p. No alternative though, will book my transport and then complain.
