Newquay Cornwall in April

Hi, we've booked and paid deposit for a cottage in Newquay for a week in August that we now cannot do (baby due right before that week, and so might not even have arrived yet, and definitely don't want to be that far away!).

In order to make use of the deposit and not lose it, we can move it to a week in April school holidays, but I'm wondering if this is classed as 'out of season' and if there will be much to see/do?

We were banking on just visiting local beaches in August, but doubt the weather will allow for 7 days of this in April, so need other things to do for the children.

Any advice from anyone on Newquay in April?

  • We stayed in Newquay for a week at the end of March/early April this year and had a lovely time. Absolutely hoards of beaches for walks, National Trust places etc. We don't have kids though, so you might be different. There's stuff like the aquarium and similar. Assuming you are after Easter, all normal tourst attractions will be open, you just need to account for the quite possibly cold/windy/rainy weather!
  • There is a zoo in Newquay as well as the aquarium.
There is also a multiscreen cinema and Waterworld with fun pools and flumes etc.
There are plenty of lovely beaches to walk to.
On a clear night the stars are great. Might be worth getting a stargazing app for your phone.
Maybe you could have surfing lessons. How old are the kids?

Thanks guys, my boys will be 6 & 7, surfing lessons is on their wish list so hopefully we can do that.

We will be going right before Easter, the school holidays (for where we are) are the 2 weeks before Easter weekend, so we'll be coming home on the Saturday of that weekend.

There's a lot more "to do" if you've deep pockets than ever before.

All the usual surfing etc, but there are also more things like jet-ski hire and a banana boat ride (age limits on that).

    There's football "crazy golf" too.

Depends where in "Newquay" you're staying really as to what's "up your end".

    It's also, of course, weather-dependent.

There's a sports hall, 2 swimming pools, tennis courts, boating lake (pedalo/rowing).
There are beaches of course - and all the walking round the coastal footpaths.
There are a few formal tourist attractions, the aquarium, a "Tunnels through time" thing.
There's the modern cinema right in the centre.
Up the road a few miles there's Retallack - which has a big surfing machine/flowrider.
There are quite a few bowling options, indoors, too.
Horse riding/stables, which isn't something most people do, of course - it's for horsey people, not beginners.

"What's On" for local events won't even be decided/published until about a month before. The town goes into a hibernation over winter, then everybody puts their advertising budget into one blast.
  • Maybe keep an eye open for vouchers. There is a Prezzo,, Pizza Express and Frankie and Benny's.
