Holiday entitlement help

I was wondering if any one can help advise me?
I have worked for my current employer since Sept 2012. My employer has just announced that my holiday entitlement will be 5 weeks plus statutory days this year instead of 4. This is 28 days.
They are not the type to just give a freebie like this so I decided to google. ACAS website says that I should always have had this entitlement level. Is this correct? If so what can I do about previous years?

Four weeks plus bank holidays is 28 days assuming a five day working week. That is the statutory minimum.
If you work a different pattern you'll need to give us a clue.0 -
I work 5 days a week full time and I have only ever had 23 days0

There are (usually) eight bank holidays in a year. Have you included these in the 23 days?
What are you referring to as "statutory days" if not bank holidays?0 -
We got 4 full weeks plus Christmas day, Easter Sunday and Boxing day off0
-
What about the other bank holidays?
Easter Sunday isn't a bank holiday, but Easter Monday is. Do you get a day in lieu if you work the bank holidays? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
We work them. I literally have my contract that says 23 days includes statutory days0

You need to raise this with your employer, wether you will get anywhere is another matter but going forward you now know what your entitlement is. Remember to ensure you use all your hols as if you don't then you may lose them come year end.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I suggest you raise it with your employer first, make sure you're absolutely clear that you have had less than the 28 days.
It sounds to me like they've just realised that they've been giving you too little and now they've rectified it, and are probably hoping no one realises or challenges it.
I'd get legal advice, or go to Citizens Advice Bureau if you don't want get anywhere with your employer and want to take it further. I think there is potential for a tribunal claim but there is often a time limit, so it's not certain that they'll hear it. Even if they do, you have to ask yourself if it is worth it.

If that's correct they've been giving less than the legally permissable statutory minimum (assuming you work in the UK and work 5 day weeks). The minimum is 5.6 weeks including bank holidays. For a 5 day week that is 28 days.0
