Fitting liquid dispensers on tiled walls

I have just had a new bathroom fitted and am very happy with the end result.

I have now decided that I would like three wall-mounted liquid dispensers fitted, one near the wash basin and two in the shower area. These areas are tiled.

I know that the local independent bathroom fitters I used are too busy with other orders to come back until a few months into the new year so I am thinking of looking for another local tradesperson to do the job - would this have to be a tiler?

Many thanks in advance.

Btw, I am now painfully aware that I should have thought of this before the bathroom was finished :rotfl:

How are the dispensers to be attached? I know there are some that can be glued on with tile adhesive, or that hang off a couple of screws drilled into the wall. I would think a handyman could do this.

Or is it more integrated into the wall?

drilling ceramic tiles is a basic DIY job anybody that is reasonably competent should be able to drill a hole in a ceramic tile without causing any damage

mask the area with masking tape and mark the hole that you want to drill turn off the hammer action on the drill and using a new masonry bit start slowly and apply even pressure until the drill bit breaks the tile glaze drill through the rest of the tile without hammer action, and then when you hit the wall if it is a concrete block or brick wall put the hammer action on and drill to required depth

apply an appropriate wall fixing to support your dispenser

if it makes you feel happier then you can buy a dedicated tile/glass drill to drill out the tile then switch to a masonry drill to drill the wall

You could probably do it yourself if you're brave, or if you have to wait for somebody to do it for you, Ikea sells cheap ones that attach to tiles/glass with a suction cup. They look a bit weird but they're cheap and do the job if you don't want to do without for now.

The suction cups don't stay put very well.

The suction cups with a good dollop of Evostick Serious Stuff waterproof adhesive stay put very well !

We have the suction cup things for bottles of shower gel, shampoo etc - each one needs redoing maybe once a year. I think it depends how you put them up in the first place - clean, flat tiles, follow the instructions etc :)

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question, the advice was very helpful and the dispensers will be going up next week.

Sorry for the delay in replying - I thought I had posted a reply but it seems to have disappeared into the cyber ether!

i you have hard porcelain tiles then it it slightly different. If you drill the tiles with a masonry drill they will probably crack.

Buy a cheap diamond tile drill from Screwfix. It will only last for about 10 holes but will give you a nice clean hole without cracking tiles.
It does take quite a while to drill through tiles, so leave yourself an hour or two.
