Ladies and gents, LL has responded! We are getting a sub meter fitted, and she will call us later to discuss how to work out what is owed
  • Because of course the way the electric was set up had completely slipped her mind all this time. Cheeky mare!

Don't rely on future sub meter readings to decide how much she has already used - as she knows about the meter there is nothing to stop her switching most everything off and then claiming it means she only used a few quid a month of yours in the past.

Personally I'd say "my estimate was £49 a month, so you need to pay me: (actual bill - estimate) x months it has been going on plus electricians fees for sorting it all out."

    SP
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

If it happens then you rely on the difference from your own meter new readings versus what reading used to be " Now my bill is £49 instead of £152 so you pay me the difference x months"

If the LL has a kitchen then they may well have a freezer. Switching that off may cause a problem.

What freezer? We don't know what the switch connects too ;)

    That's great :j
If she is a bit slow with her offer or recompense, you could suggest a rent reduction till it's paid off....starting this month.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Don't forget about there being 4 meters for 4 flats - normally there would be another meter for Landlord areas, so who's paying for any communal lighting/power? Assuming that you have communal entrance/stairs/corridors with lighting etc?

The supply when we moved in was with SSE, and I've just checked back on what our bill was from 8th Jan- 14th Feb (that's when GB energy began providing) and they charged us £215.88 that month! Definitely putting that into consideration with what is owed, still have that single bill at home so will see how much of that was purely electric.
