Warm home discount + utility company Insolvency?
To be eligible for the core group of warm home discount this year you needed to meet the criteria on July 10th 2016.However the companies do not need to pass on the government money to you until may 31st 2017.
So what happens if any of the 20 companies that operate this scheme goes bust in that 10 months ?
GB Energy were part of the scheme and as Martin said in his TV show earlier this week its very likely more companies will go bust.
10,000s of the poorest people in the country will be £140 worse off if this likely scenario comes about.
Last year the companies had to apply it to your bills by 31st March why is it 31st May this year?
Have the core group customers of GB Energy who received the government of letter had or going to get the £140? I doubt it.

The scenario does not apply to me but could cost some of the poorest in the country £140.
It does not state what happens if your supplier goes bust after receiving the grant from the government.
And why does it take 10 months for it to be applied to your account.0 -

I thought the money for the Warm Home Discount came from all the bill payers of that company, not the government.
The money is raised via the 'green deal' which is a levy on all bill payers, so the amount each company has available is relative to the number of customers the company has.
Most of the small energy suppliers are not part of the green deal, and don't offer the Warm Home Discount."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
The WHD is paid by the Energy suppliers. The reason it is late is the scheme was meant to close last year. The Government and energy suppliers then agreed to run it for a further 5 years but it was only signed off later in the year. This meant the scheme's opened approx 3 months late therefore the companies have the extra time to allocate the payments. I have no idea what happens if the companies go bust.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
