I was wandering if anyone could shed any light on a problem that i'm trying to solve for a family memeber. I have had a look and this seems to be the right place to put the thread but if its not could some one please point me in the right direction.
So here is the problem. A few months a ago my step brother moved into my mums house after having fallen out with his mother. He is now permanantly residing at my mother and stepfaters house. Since he was young he has a had a "portman young Savers" account. On the account book his mother is listed as the signatry and he is listed as the "SOLE" whatever that means?. He is now 17 but will be 18 in March. He has asked his mum for the money in the account, which she has refused. He has also asked the bank if she can be removed from the account, which can only happen if she aggrees, which again she has refused. On speaking to the bank we have asked the the account be frozen until the situation is resolved, but the bank have said that they will look into it but have not garanteed to do so. From what i have managed to find out so far it seems that legal action is the only way forward, however as he is still not 18 it would have to be done on his behalf and that would encurr legal expences which may well be greater than the money concerned (£1,800). The crux of the matter is that he has saved this money over the years and that surely there must be a way of him accessing it before she is able to remove the money?
Any light which anyone may be abel to shed on issue would be gratefully recieved.
Cheers Dom
