I am looking for suggestions for a book to read on Christmas Eve to a nine year old.
Something I can read to him (so not a long novel type book, more in the style of the grufflo type books)
Any suggestions welcome.
Many thanks

I have been doing this every year, he gets the book in his Christmas eve hamper (along with a new pair of pyjamas, small toy and a Christmas chocolate)
I hadn't thought of the snowman and the bear with it will be another thing sorted

We always read 'The Night Before Christmas.'
We have that one, brought that in previous years, good suggestion for others reading, which is why I didn't list the ones I have done before. I get a new one each year which seemed a good idea when I started but I am running out of ideas, it gets harder as he gets older of short books are too young for him.0 -

I understand now that you're trying to add to the books each year.
If it was just a tradition you wanted to build up in terms of reading aloud I'd say read The Night Before Christmas every time.
If you're religious., why not read the traditional Christmas story?
I think that doing the same thing every year builds memories and family traditions.
I'll give some thought to what you might add to his collection.

Not specifically a Christmas story, but great to read aloud and with enchanting, detailed illustrations:

DGS will be getting this in his stocking;* I suspect it will become a family favourite.
* I love it too, so am going to order another copy to keep at Granny's House.

Oh I love The Night Before Christmas. When I was at high school we were a bit obsessed with it and used to recite it to each other (it was the early 90s, we didn't have the internet to keep us entertained
) I still know most of it by heart now. 0 -
