Home Insurance - Burglar Alarms

Hi,
Our Home insurnace is due for renewal and was going to ask them if the Honeywell burglar alarm I fitted the other month would be gain us any extra discount.
I imaging the fact it is a diy install might not make it accepable to them ? but would be interested to know how much discount they would likely offer , around 5 % ?
The other way of looking at it, if they did accept the alarm and give us a discount of 5% = £7 would it be worth the risk, that should we be burgled etc seems they say the claim will be invalid should we have forgot to set the alarm on ..? as we have missed doing on the odd occassion at night ( old age strikes again !)

After doing a tons of insurance quotes it wouldnt surprise me if it increased the premium. Insurance is mad like that and dont forget the admin fee if you decide mid term.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I doubt a diy alarm would warrant a discount, and if it did it'd likely be 2.5%.
Declaring an alarm and getting the discount doesn't automatically mean it's a condition of the policy that it has to be on.
Check your policy wording or schedule to see what security is a requirement.0 -
We've recently moved into a home with Burglar Alarm, professionally fitted and serviced. Was not sure of lock status on windows and doors (if they met the 'security' levels demanded). So basically declared no locks and no alarm to my insurers to be safe.
I did ask my insurer what discount I might get if I found I had suitable locks and the alarm ... which was 10% for BOTH security items. Nothing for only one or the other.
On a £300 pa premium that wouldn't cover the annual alarm maintenance charge! So it's left as 'none'.0 -

What they probably did not mention is that generally the 10% discount is only off the Contents part of the premium which is most likely circa £130 on a £300 premium. So the saving would be even less0
