Second hand Nook or Kobo - UK library books

I would like to buy an ereader to read library books (I'm in the UK). I think I still probably go for one with a light. Kobo aura or glo are quite expensive second hand still. Does anyone know whether you can still read library books on a nook since Barnes and Nobel stopped supporting nook in the UK and you can't get an account? Thanks.

Yes, I still use my nook for library books.
I've downloaded the Calibre software which you can also use for Amazon downloads as well with a bit of tweaking.

Actually, Barnes and noble transferred to Sainsbury's entertainment and I'm fairly sure my library has just changed again to kobo.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Yes thats right.
  • Thank you very much for your response. Do you have to do anything differently due to the book being formatted without an account - ie would the procedure still be simply to download to the computer via overdrive and use Adobe digital editions to transfer to the nook via the cable? Also are you happy with the nook?

Basically yes. I never used Barnes and Noble anyway - they were too expensive.
I am very happy with the nook because courtesy of various deals and vouchers it only cost me £17 new. It's not backlit, which I prefer, so I got a clip on reading light for a couple of quid but have rarely needed it.
I still prefer proper books, but for holidays it saves taking a suitcase full. The battery lasts for ages as well.

One caveat - not about the nook but about library ebooks - I find the choice is quite poor and tends more towards the easy read end of the spectrum.

  • Great, thanks for all your help. I will take a look at my library's selection before making a decision.

I got my Nook from sainsburys when they were reduced maybe last year, might have been £50. Its great as you can still read it in the sun whereas my phone/tablet I cant see the screen.
