Hi, just wondering if someone can please help with queries on back draught shutter for bathroom extractor. I am. Looking to replace standard 100mm bathroom extractor and would like to add back draught shutter at the same time if possible.
1. How do these generally get fitted? Our existing fan is on a wall which is an on external wall and I can see there is no ducting as such. There is an air brick at the outside. Do these shutters get attached to fan and if so are they universal fit?
2. Any decent shutters tat someone can recommend. I understand, there maybe some issued with wind noise so am looking at ones with a spring built in but would appreciate some suggestions please.
Thanks

Alot of fans come with shutters built in, but the stand-alone ones I've seen are sized to fit inside the ducting, so just push inside with some rubber seal strip or tape to seal go the duct. You could probably push them into the fan outlet then use some duct tape to hold them in position, or buy a short length of duct and fit that to the back of a fan.
This sort of thing, but shop around:

Another option is that you can get anti-draught cowls to fit over air bricks to reduce draughts, various sizes etc.. Not as effective as a back draught shutter but helps.

I replaced my noisy ineffective axial extractors with a quieter centrifugal extractors which had a built in shutter.
