I get my renewal and phone them to say they are having a laugh and they drop the price, i say your getting closer but you need to try again and theyt drop it further.
Not changed breakdown company in 20 odd yearsCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My renewal price came out cheaper than changing companies, even allowing for possible cashback.0

I tried that with AA once but they could not match the RAC price when you factored in the Quidco money as well.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

Goodness Mobeer - that's good. I've bene quoted £109 frozen renewal with RAC but if hubby takes out membership plus TCB its £48. Not sure how many times you can keep chopping and changing though?Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

Right upto the point where they say not valid if you have been a customer in the last 13 months or 24 months or ever been a customer.
If its 13 months or so then you either stay where you are or switch without the cashback or risk not having cover for that month and then try again when its 13 months and 1 day.
Until then its free to swap back and forth. The AA dont offer what i need so my only alternative is green flag but i need to join another club to use that service.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That's what I was wondering. I'm not sure how it works so wasn't sure about what I should do.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Before I put my kids on my car insurance I was paying about £100-£110 a year. I was coming on here and people are talking about £200 for breakdown cover. Car insurance covers massive risks. If I drive through a bus stop of people and leave some dead and some brain damaged the costs are enormous. The worst a breakdown company would pay is for a recovery across the country. Cars are more reliable than ever. A visit from a local recovery operator is not that expensive. Breakdown cover should not be expensive. It seems to me that a lot of big companies try to make the public believe that things should cost more more so they can rip them off. When people like Auto Aid then offer cover at a reasonable price people then say "that's cheap and nasty cover, I don't want it". Apple computers are the classic example of overcharging and look at their profits. Normal UK breakdown cover should never be more than £50.0

Thanks Fred. Yes I know some of the breakdown cover is cheaper - but I add in relay back home (not to nearest garage) plus home start. Being disabled I don't want to be stranded anywhere.
Though I think the RAC might lose a lot of custom after the report on Watchdog last night about them incorrectly selling batteries to people at the roadside when there was no need!
Yes you are quite right - its ridiculous that breakdown cover is almost the same as car insurance.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
We're always told to shop around and to use Quidco etc but I was wondering how it works with chopping and changing from RAC to AA and vice versa etc.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

I don't really understand why you will only use 2 companies. You don't really get people who say I will only use Direct Line or Aviva for car insurance. It's probably the obsession with only using 2 companies which keeps prices high for breakdown cover while motor insurance is more competitive due to a willingness to go for the cheapest instead of a strange brand loyalty.0
