Christmas posting dates and closures

Just the annual reminder about Post Office and RM closures over Christmas and the New year:

http://www.royalmail.com/greetings

The important thing is that Christmas Eve, December 24th is a normal Saturday for deliveries and PO opening (although check your own branches in case) but then there are no deliveries or collections again in England until Wednesday 28th December.

Then over New Year New Years Eve is a normal Saturday for deliveries and PO opening (although check your own branches in case) but then there are no deliveries or collections again in England. In England there are deliveries and collections starting on the Tuesday the 2nd, but in Scotland nothing starts until Wednesday 3rd.

In past years ebay have sometimes not allowed for the extra days as being a US company their system 'allows' for a single day off for Christmas. Personally I find as well that buyers don't seem to understand that if there are no collections then their items won't get here next day, so if they buy on Christmas day (and I'm often busy over Christmas) they seem to expect their goods to arrive on the first day they get post after the shutdown, which is of course only the first day I can actually post something!

All sellers should keep a good eye on their late defects and adjust their dispatch times accordingly if things start looking worrying.

I've just had my first 'late' defect for nearly a year, and it is almost a year to the day when I got my first one last Christmas.

I've decided to set a 3 day dispatch rather than bust a gut worrying about lates, and I've just spent ages bulk editing my listings with my Virgin broadband on go slow, only to check and find that all my listings still actually show 1 day. Do changes take a while to update, as I don't recall it having a delay last time I did anything in bulk editing.

The estimated delivery depends on service used and dispatch times, that's why I have extended my dispatch time to 3 days as my free postage is 2nd class and that now shows that anything bought today has an estimated delivery up to the 12 th December.

There are a couple of mentions of Christmas dates on Tamebay, this one refers to ebay extending the time frame:

and this is the last courier dates:

Just a final reminder, tomorrow is the last opening before Christmas and in England the post office and Royal mail do not start working again until Wednesday.
