  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the thread. There looks to be a severe covering of frost outside, at first glance I thought it was snow!

Well as expected I couldn't be ar*ed writing the cards yesterday. Though I did update my list. It's so sad when there are departed friends and rellies to cross off and this year there seem more than ever.

LWW my DB's MIL is still hanging on too. The family have been at the hospital almost constantly since they got the call in the early hours of Sunday but she is still clinging on. I am supposed to be going to their house this afternoon to collect our monthly yummy sausage order but, depending on the latest news, that may or may not happen.

I left a big batch of Lentil & Bacon soup in the sc overnight. Oh it does smell good! That will be lunch with a sarnie. The rest will be frozen. The DGDs are here for tea and sleepover. It was going to be sausage and mash but that may change if I don't get our order! Tomorrow morning will be chaotic as I have a hospital appt at 9.00 so we need to be off and away extra early. The girls will get deposited at breakfast club which opens at 8.00 and that should allow us to get through the traffic and get there in time - looking like a frazzled wreck no doubt!

Have a good day if you can and (((HUGS))) to all the anxious, stressed and poorlies. Take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Freezing here this morning, OH has just salted the garden path as we have had Mum with us overnight and can take no chances with her slipping etc. She was not so good yesterday, very tired after her visitors and hardly eating no matter what we tried. Hopefully today will be a little better.
Will take her back to OH for midday as stoma nurse is due and then I am going over to see my other SIL and nieces, will be good to have a catch up.

Hugs to all with troubled minds and those who feel poorly x
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good Morning everyone and by jiminy what a cold and frosty day it is this morning.Again pale pink /purple sky in the distance over the river but sheets of white covering everything.
I had a bit better sleep last night as I took my painkillers about half an hour before bed so actually managed to sleep through until 5.00 this morning from about 12.00 last night which is really good for me as I normally have several broken bits when I turn over as I am a light sleeper. So feeling a lot brighter today.

We won at quiz last night so have a good stash of bottles for the Christmas share out :0
My sis-in-law is coming this morning for a coffee and natter as she is off to Mexico for three months in 10 days time.

Last day of the month and St Andrews day as well, so thumbs up to the Scots amongst us :)

Tomorrow is bill paying day and the day I sort my accounts out for the coming month :) That's going to be fun :) shuffling cash around .

I must get a wriggle on with my Christmas cards though as time is ticking onwards.
<<hugs>> and thoughts go to the worried and poorly on here ,you are in my thoughts at this difficult time

Take care all and keep warm and well wrapped up if you are going out

    Cheers JackieO xx

Dumpling you sound like you have a great chap there, hope you have a smashing day tomorrow xx
TA that bacon and lentil soup sounds nice any chance of the recipe pretty please
  • JACKIE here's the lentil & bacon soup recipe. I originally got it from my sc cookbook but occasionally just make it in a pan!

Approx 125g bacon (I use cooking bacon)
    1 medium onion finely chopped
    1 carrot finely chopped
    115g red lentils
    400g can of tomatoes
    half tsp dry mixed herbs
850 ml chicken stock (cubes ok)
salt and freshly milled black pepper

I leave overnight in sc on low, (I liquidise as I don't like soup with bits in!)

    Good morning all,

Thank you nmlc for starting the thread.

    Happy St Andrew's day!

Oh dear, a lot of poorlies by the look of it, with colds and sniffles. Look after yourselves and keep warm, sending wellbeing wishes to all.

Also sending my thoughts to all who have ailing parents or relatives. Waiting for the inevitable is such a hard and heartbreaking time.

Dumpling advance best wishes for a happy anniversary tomorrow (in case I forget tomorrow), hope you are planning a lovely celebration.

Camelot the image of your little kitchen station in the living room brought memories of my lengthy kitchen refurbishment, we had a kitchen station for several months, I hope yours goes quicker!

Cold day today but I am still stuffed in bed while saintly DH prepares his magic porridge. Shouldn't take long today as I left a pan with oats and water on the wood stove before going to bed so the oats should be well softened, if not totally precooked. I love our little stove, last night all our hot drinks AND hot water bottle came from water heated by the stove kettle.

I am determined to use as little gas and electric energy as I can, I rebel and revolt to the idea of how much profit these companies are making and how they keep inflating the prices!

Today, lovely sunny and cold day, I wanted to go out for a drive with DH but remember we cannot, because he has committed to help clear and tidy the church where they had the Christmas play, where I was the horse puppet. Ah well, I will go down with him and lend a hand, so at least we spend time together we are expected at lunchtime.

So, breakfast porridge, lunch will be oatcakes and cheese with the church people before clearing up, dinner will be fried eggs with bubble and squeak, the leftover potato and greens from last night.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Good morning chums,

    Happy St Andrews Day.

Was absent yesterday as I was in the dentist in the morning filling down one of my filings a bit so the rest of the day was playing catch-up.

I've found a technique which has increased my productivity to no end, but I've only used it in work. I segment my day into small bite size chunks. So I'll say 10:00-11:00 catching up on emails, 11:00-11:30 make some calls etc. I find I'm much less distracted and I'm getting more done. I heard about it on a podcast I'm sure when the guy said it changed his life and I thought, "Pfffff, usual exaggerated claim" - but it worked for me.

I went to my friends house yesterday to watch the Leeds game who are our English football team to support. Disappointing defeat but we played well.

Today after work I will be playing football then chilling out and reading some of my book I think.

redruby - hope you feel better soon
    camelot - you tell 'em!

    Have a nice day everyone.
  • Morning all

I hope you feel better soon and make sure you stay warm with plenty of soft drinks.

Dishwasher has nearly finished and the clean bedding has been draped over a couple of airers. Pea and ham soup is simmering for tonight and I will blend it when it has cooled down.

I am meeting a dd on the bus to Leeds just before two and hope to buy some train tickets for Saturday to see youngest and also look at the new retail outlet near the bus station and have a browse round the market.

More parcels arrived for dds this morning and they can collect them when they next come round and I have a few things to get stored away like laundry and dishwasher capsules, large bottle of F**ry liquid for refills etc.

    nmlc

Well done on not rising to the bait but it is discouraging when someone turns up their nose at a dish. Passive aggressive, I know but I would feel inclined to cook something they absolutely hate for the next day or so.

Older dd has just said pea and ham soup is her favourite so I will fill a couple of cartons and freeze it for her. Middle dd is staying over on Friday night and will drive me to the station the next morning so I want to cook something nice for her.

Hugs to all especially Lainey, Hilstep, LWW and Coxy.

  • Afternoon, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Went to Bingham this morning, Library, bank, Boots and then Aldi. I got OH more of hid cough stuff, could not believe it was 75p more than at our chemist in the next village. Hmmmmm will not be buying anymore from Boots.

Once home put all the shopping away and then heated up yesterdays left over soup, its always better the second day. I had put some yellow split peas in to coak, so that is now soup for tomorrow, will put it in the fridge when its cooled off. The mince I cooked yesterday is ready to heat up for the spag bol. Have a garlic loaf to put in the oven as well.

I managed to spend almost 2/3rds of my housekeeping money, a bit more than I intended, but what I have left will pay for the bits we will need over the holiday.

My nose stopped running yesterday, I am a bit stuffed up but not that bad. OH thinks its an allergic reaction to something. My stomach is sore when I cough from the violent sneezing bouts. Still with a bit of lkuck I will be fine by the weekend.

    Afternoon!

My day was as busy as I predicted but now I'm finished.

My new ash vacuum cleaner is brilliant - so light weight and easy to use. My woodburner installer said that some ash should be left in the box each time, so with the vacuum it' a simple job. Mind you the wood that I have burns to almost nothing so it's a week or 10 days between cleaning.

Then I finished off all the outstanding marking that I'd been putting off as I'm with my class tomorrow. Did some telephone calls to nervous tutors about internal verification, sorted out more documents by email, did two dishwasher loads, did one washing machine load, ate the last of the minced lamb, packed a suitcase and vacuumed downstairs and filled all the bird feeders!

Now I'm catching up on daytime easy watching TV - The Coroner. Just the job to finish off the day.
