O/S Daily Wednesday 30 November 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still asleep, will wake him shortly.

Still dark here, very cold and frosty again, yesterday the sun shone and it was one of those clear cold crisp winter days, but by 2.30pm customers were coming in saying you feel the temperature just dropping, and when I came out of work at 4.30pm it was already freezing. The only good side of this is that hopefully the cold weather will kill off a few of the germs that have been lurking about.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken pieces, pasta in a creamy tomato sauce, of course DH moaned, he started as soon as he walked in the door, he looked at what was cooking on the hob - I just continued with what I was doing - and didn't speak to him much for the rest of the night, just can't be doing with it, especially after I've been at work all day. Tonight we'll be having pork chops, mash, veg and gravy.

Work yesterday was much busier - then did ease off, but expecting more of the same today and I'm working on the telephones all day, so we'll see how that goes. I'll need to stop off on the way home and pick up some milk, meats and some bread.

Keep safe and well x

  • Thank you nmic for starting us off.

It is so cold and extremely frosty this morning. We are going out ths morning to Du*elm but not until the roads have aired and the car has defrosted a bit. Himself won't normally wear gloves but he was so cold defrosting the car yesterday we bought a pair of thermal ones in T**co, when he got back to the car, took the label off and found they were 2 right handed gloves (who has 2 left hands I wonder). The assistant laughed when he took them back in.

Tru, I am so looking forward to the first carol tomorrow, I love your countdown to Christmas. I have all my presents bought now, most cards are written just a few more to do Several parcels to be posted in due course.

Next Tuesday evening I am meeting the "girls" I worked with for a nice meal so looking forward to that.

Camelot good luck with the kitchen, I remember when we had our's done, I had so much stuff in the back bedroom, and like you just used the toaster, kettle and microwave, and we were both working then. It will be worth it when it is done, and if you are like me I kept going into the kitchen just to have a look.

Sending love to all of us who are sad or not feeling well or have poorly friends and relatives, and hope for some improvement soon.

    Much love

  • Morning all, anot her sub-zero night and as it is still dark not likely to warm up for a while.

I had a very long walk home yesterday, got chilled to the bone and now have earache and a stuffed up nose.

nmlc, I am surprised that your OH complains about food, my OH cooks on my working days and it is often something I don't like but unless I really can't eat it I just put up and shut up. If I were cooking on work nights, we'd eat so late that I would have indigestion all night.

Work is busy and quite gruelling for me at the moment, should settle down again in a month of so..I must get ready to go and get grindstoning.

Hope those who are poorly or sad have a decent day and the rest of us, of course.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

candlelight I've been humming carols for a few days, looking forward to tomorrow so I can sing them, lol.

I ate a roast dinner last night, it was fabulous! I haven't been able to eat like that for months. I picked the carrots from the garden an hour before they were on my plate, cooked them al dente and was thrilled that I could bite into them, lol.

My lounge door is finally done, all the doors in my house now match :D The door is always open, the old one opened to the right, it was annoying because it seemed to cut the end of the room off. It now opens to the left, the room seems enormous!

The forecast for last night was even colder than the night before, I wasn't taking any chances with frozen muscles so I put the heating on low over night. I woke up at just gone 5am with almost full mobility :D There's a nice frost again, Scampi is not impressed because he can't dig – I'm very impressed because there's no mud on the floors :D

The house is pretty much up together so I'll keep myself busy with exciting things like bleaching my teaspoons, refilling jars and scrubbing taps with a toothbrush :D

Not a lot to report here as we are in limbo at the mo.
Cooked a beef joint in the sc last night and it's now ready for pulling for tonight's dinner. Last night was sausage and chips.
Need to start planning the big clear out for next week when I no longer work. That with all the xmas crafts I am doing I believe I will be mega busy.
DD2 has a stinker of a cold she just can not shift. The cough is driving her mad of a night time.
DGD was at the docs yesterday with an ear infection so hopefully now she has drops for it she will start to feel better soon.
DH is looking so tired at the mo as he is not sleeping with all the worry of his dad. Tried to get him to take a pill last night but he was having none of it.
Anyhoo better get ready for the chaos of work today.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx

Hugs to Lainey, Coxy, Hilstep & LWW, my hubby lost his mum last year after a years illness, it was, and still is, a difficult time.
Frosty here again today so I'll be scraping the car in a sec.
Chaotic day yesterday, I had an engineer in from 9am, he had to strip down each machine in turn, one machine alone has done 190,000 copies since the end of September, the other one has done more.
    Time I set off.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning, our dopey dog has just fallen in the pond for the second time in a week. Think his eyesight is going aaaaargh.

Hugs to LWW - stay strong for each other, I know how waiting and being in limbo is very difficult to cope with xx
Redruby - congrats to your DD xx

Off to work shortly. I am wearing boots as my feet were freezing yesterday walking home. Dinner tonight is meatballs and spaghetti courtesy of DD. Nice and easy!

Hugs to all the poorlies/those with poorlies.

    Morning All

Fairly mild here and dry for the time being. There were a few showers yesterday afternoon but it stopped for the evening.

LWW this must be a horrid time for you, look after yourselves.
Hope you feel better soon RR.

I had a chicken and bacon salad from Marks yesterday for my tea, it was lovely and even better because it was reduced. Also bought a pack of grapes which were delicious, really crunchy too.

I've told the builder that chocolate snowballs are banned from this house - some of them had a packet and the coconut appears to have exploded all over my little kitchen station in the living room, had to dig out the hoover to clean up!

Hope you all have a good day, stay warm. Take care. XX

    Morning!

It's a balmy seven degrees here though I think it's damp.

Yesterday I finally got round to making the puddini bonbons as I'm going away tomorrow to see old friends and some will be for them. They are very messy to make so I wear disposable gloves.

Today I'll be catching up on small tasks which have needed attention for ages and I've avoided. And I have to get ready for my mini trip to Newcastle as I'm leaving straight after teaching tomorrow. It's a five hour drive if all goes well.

There'll be a washing load to run through, dishwasher to empty and logs to bring in. Never ends!

    Anyway, hugs to all.

Happy St Andrew's Day to everyone.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a very cold and frosty morning here but as someone has already said it will hopefully kill off some of these horrible bugs floating around. Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready to go to school.

It's our 17th wedding anniversary tomorrow so I have just written out a card. We are not supposed to be doing presents but Hubby bought me a Sizzix Big Shot as my last one died in storage. He always gets me some lovely flowers as well. I am very lucky I know to be married to my best friend :happyhear.

I am going to be cooking this morning to try and warm up a bit. I will make a bolognese sauce as I didn't make it yesterday and I will also make a bacon and lentil soup for the girls when they come home from school. I would like to make a cake too but I will see if I have any energy left.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
