Hi

I bought a sofa from perfect home ( only because they were my only option ) on hire purchase. After 10 months the sofa was faulty. They admitted the sofa was faulty and took the sofa back and transfered £700 balance to a new agreement on a different sofa. After a few months this sofa was faulty. They sent sofa experts out who said it was a design fault in the sofa and perfect home accepted blame. They sent out a replacement sofa and the same happened again and the sofa expert came out again. He said it will keep happening and the build quality of their sofas are to blame. Perfect home again accepted blame... at this point we were not willing to accept a 4th sofa and requested our money back. Perfect home offered to give a full refund on the 2nd agreement but would not refund any of the £700 on the 1st agreement. We refused this and took it to the ombudman. They have contacted perfect home and they have offered 50% of the whole agreement paid back. £600 approx. We asked for a 50% refund on the 1st agreement and 100% on the 2nd £900 approx

Perfect home have refused this and the ombusman says we are lucky to be offered this.

What should we do.?? Is this a fair offer?? Is it worth going to court??

Please help have to reply in the next few days

If it really was a hire purchase agreement, then you are lucky to get that amount back.

Are you sure it was hire purchase, and not a personal finance deal?

It's difficult to work out over what period you have had these sofas, but the seller is allowed to make a deduction for the amount of time you have had use of these sofas.
Is the amount of money they are retaining a reasonable amount for the use you have had?

You have had well over a years out the sofa too so that gets taking into consideration. You wont get a full refund because of the use you have had from the sofa.
  • Hi thanks for replying

The first sofa was 10months the next ones under 6months. I thought they had to give you a full refund if its under 6months old but is it because its hire purchase they dont need to?

The 2nd sofa started to break after a month.

My wife wants to accept the money and return the sofas and go get new ones from scs. Dont like letting them away with this but looks like they are
