Cast Iron replacement for 1930s fireplace

we have just moved in to our first home, a victorian end of terrace. on the ground floor are 2 1930s fireplaces. in the dining room we would like to remove on of them and leave open with candles etc..(wife seen too many DIY programmes) however, we would like a working cast iron replacement for the lounge. is it best to get a reconditioned one or a new replica, i think there is one called the Radley. How much are we looking at? Also can we remove the exsisting fireplaces ourselves or do we need professional help?

You only need a gas insert for it and a fitter. That's if you don't simply want it to be an open fire in which case you could probably DIY if you were confidetn.
The actual fireplace won't matter. I get most of mine on ebay! It's easy to to get them looking good again, but people are often selling perfectly good replica ones that they are removing for whatever reason. I wouldn't use a second hand gas insert, but it's a totally separate unit from the rest of the fireplace.
If you want a new replica, then ebay is still a very good place to look.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
