Good luck with this OP. I would expect them to go ahead with the sale, after all, it's certain money as you are obviously prepared to go ahead, even if it doesn't cover the full amount. I'm pretty sure this will get sorted for you in the next few days. If the seller owns another property I'm sure there's a way to put a charge on that or something.

The problem with expecting to claim expenses from the vendor here, is that they are in negative equity... so not much you can take from them!!

    The deposit ?

A colleague has been in similar position since August, although they hadn't exchanged, and they've put most of their stuff in storage and are living in air bnbs, would that be possible?

It's not a similar position at all. They have no comeback on the seller unlike the OP.

    Hmm yes you're correct.oops.
  • Hope it all gets resolved for you. Sounds like an absolute nightmare.
  • ^Another are you being deliberately obtuse too? The similarities are giving notice on a rental income before the purchase property is available and thus requiring temporary accommodation, that is my point. I do understand the difference between exchange and completion.

I was, however, offering the OP practical advice regarding potentially having nowhere to live whilst this sorts itself out, but clearly my semantically imperfect post matters more, and thus I'll bow out wishing the OP the best of luck getting this resolved quickly.
