I have signed up to the credit score check services and have noticed that in the accounts sections they are listing my bank account and credit card (also provided by my bank) without part of my surname. The accounts are all correctly linked to me, and after calling the bank my name is correct on their systems, so I dont know where/if its being miss-reported from? The fact that I see the same thing from multiple credit services makes me believe this isnt just a display thing, and its the actual bank miss-reporting...

Edit, to clarify by missing part of my surname I mean:
Say my name was "Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam"
It is being reported as "Aliaume Damala Akon Thiam"

It sounds like your name is too long complex for many systems in this country.

Short of legally changing your name, I'd come up with a simplified/anglicised version you use when applying for things.

Is this kind of thing normal? Should I be worried? Or contact the bank to get it resolved? Is it normal for people with long names to get misreported?

Yes, it happens. Nothing to worry about as long as everything ends up on the same credit file.

Thats good (well, takes the worry away) so this happening isnt going to trigger any fraud protection is it? Should I worry to contact the bank and try and get them to fix this?
  • You could speak to them to put your mind at rest. But it may not be something they can fix, but it won't cause any problems.

I have this problem- I changed my name nine years ago but for some reason Barclays won't accept the change so my account is in the name of Miss X when it should be Miss X-Y. I've had the account for fifteen years but despite me showing them my deed poll it remains unchanged.

Wow, I'm guessing you havent had any issues due to this in the 9 years it has been happening then?
