    You've already told us that you knew the lease was for 10k, and that you'd need to change that post-signing. That's not, in itself, daft. It may well be that the extra mileage charges were lower than the extra monthly - so by doing it that way, you'd be ahead. IF you remembered to change the mileage once the lease was in place.

    You assumed he'd do it.
    He expected you'd do it.
    You didn't check up on whether it'd been done.
