Let's hope they find out what wrong. It's been my pride and joy, can't imagine what I do if they say it my fault
I certainly can't afford another one x
You sound like a nice person to be fair! But sometimes it will be your "fault" (and you aren't to blame per se, just that damage occurs through use). An independent report needs to be done if you want to go through your consumer rights.
You also have the warranty possibility which you can explore.I just need to add some perspective, Its still just stuff!
Indeed. Between you and me but I probably wouldn't spend so much on a watch, and even if I did I'm more likely to put it in the bin than get it repaired. But I hope our advice has given you some insight as to the best course of action at this stage, because you do have rights. All is not lost at the moment.0 -
There is some good news in all of this. I was talking to a watch repair guy recently and he told me TAG don't tend to repair the watch. If it is faulty they replace the entire internal mechanism meaning essentially you get a new watch.0

Great news to hear TAG are a company with a good reputation, thank you.
I have looked after my watch so let's hope I don't get the blame.0 -
I was speaking to a work colleague this morning about my experience yesterday. He was quite shocked, and explained that he had bought a fossil watch a few months ago which he managed to damaged out running (clearly his fault) He took it back to the shop expecting to pay for a repair but because it was less than 12 months old it was replaced on the spot.
That was what I expected yesterday.0 -

Each store or chain has it's own policy, and the law says they can repair, replace or refund. It's their choice, not yours. No free lunch, and no free laptop

For a cheap fashion watch, that might have been cost effective for the vendor (and also your friend might have not been honest with them about the reason it got damaged).
Not sure if I have missed this in the thread or if you haven't said, but what symptoms of 'not working correctly' is the watch displaying ?0 -

It's a mechanical fault, on the hour the hour hand is at the half hour position (ie between two numbers) the guy in the shop said he has never seen something like that before.0 -

I received a reply from Goldsmiths saying that thier policy is to repair once and if the fault returns within the follow 6 months they replace or refund.
They also pointed me to the Retail ombudsman if I wasn't happy.
So now I will wait to find out what the fault is.
However, I also rang the Ombidsman just to ask that very question, under 6 months, repair, replace, refund Who's Choice is it, retailer or customer? He told me that it's now the customer and that a lot of retailers policies haven't yet caught up with the new rules.
Anyway I have learnt a valuable lesson, which is to check a retailers returns policy before making an expensive purchase and if I don't like what I see, don't buy.
Thank you everyone for your helpful comments everyone.0
