removing loft hatch

Afternoon all...

I have an old house approx 150 years old, in the bedroom there is an unsightly loft hatch, small loft with nothing in there apart from an old hot water tank which is now not used as we have a combi boiler.

Is there any problems with sealing up the loft hatch and plastering over it as we will never use the loft space?

Many thanks in advance

S

You should maintain access even if you don't intend on using the space. Your wiring for your upstairs lights is more than likely up there. Also you may need to inspect the indie of your roof at some point.

You probably shouldn't plaster over the loft hatch... If you need to get up there, it will be a lot of hassle!

I would sooner change, redesign, or relocate a hatch, than get rid of one.

The common sense answer to removing the loft hatch is to expect a potential de - valuing of your home and/or problems when you come to sell.

I would not be doing what you propose, but it is your decision, and your home.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful and thought it would be best to move the hatch...my better half just needed a second opinion.
    Thanks again
