Gaming console advice

Im thinking of getting one. I used to play on my PC a few moons ago and now the wife says we should get one. Can someone update me on a good console and if a lot of games are pay to play. By the latter I mean I hear that these days some games e.g. FIFA require you to pay for the game and then spend more money on top for other stuff. How common is this in games? Most 'free' mobile games have this model (ie in app purchases) so Im interested to know.
There's a PS4 mini (500gb) with 2 games going for £189 today so could be tempted to get it.

I have an Xbox one, which i can reccomend. I tried the playstation but didnt like the controller
Consoles dont really work on the same model as the "free to download" or "pay to win" mobile games.
You can buy extra bits, like different camo for your gun etc . and some games do have buyable extras that come out after time, like extra map packs and things like that.
But generally, you buy the game, fully functional, up front0 -
The FIFA thing you may have heard is the buying of points for in game consumables for its Ultimate Team mode. It is not essential for the functionality of the game.
Pick a console with the exclusive games you like the sound of and enjoy.0 -
Great, thanks for that.0
