Buyer's PayPal "not working"

Buyer has messaged to say their PayPal is playing up and can I send my email so they can pay via another PayPal account. Am not comfortable with this, I don't think it will register properly on eBay and offer the same protection. Am I right to be cautious? I'm happy to wait until they can sort it out with PayPal.

Comments

  • All the buyer has to do is get their family member with the other PayPal account to change the PayPal email address to theirs and put their password in when checking out and then just double check the address is correct because you can't deviate from that.

There's nothing for you to do at your end.

You have no need for the 'right' person to pay, as long as you receive a paypal payment that shows in your paypal account and you follow all the usual rules you are fine. As Ballisticbrian says, just tell them to sign in via whatever paypal they want to use and pay with that.

When my sons were at uni they often bought things on ebay and then I paid later using my paypal account.

But you didn't need to send your email to the buyer for them to acccept this?

The only time the buyer needs your paypal email address is if they don't want access to the ebay account they are 'paying for'. In my case if I was paying for my sons uni books (or more likely an item of clothing they absolutely had to have :money:) I was jolly well going to go through their ebay account to pay for it.

I have paid for goods for my sister before and in that case she did ask the seller to send the paypal address and I paid direct without having access to my sister's ebay account. However that was a emergency situation where my sister was abroad and didn't want to start sending passwords etc via text message to me .

Although ebay and paypal do set up links between them that is for ease of use not for security, in fact some people prefer not to even have them linked and to pay as a guest as they don't trust paypal security.

As a seller you just need to know how to stay safe, and to check before sending goods that you have the money safely in your paypal account. The moment buyers use the words 'escrow' or you get emails from paypal saying the funds are held and won't show in your account until you prove dispatch *then* you are being conned. However, no established seller should be falling for any such obvious scams.

  • Thanks guys. I asked her to sort it out, and she's cancelled the order now.
    Something smelt fishy.

What option have you used to cancel the sale? Hopefully you went for 'buyer requested cancellation' so that you don't get a defect.

Don't forget to add her to your blocked bidder list as well.

I've been having big trouble paying by paypal for some weeks now. I can pay for a single item bought from a seller, but not when more than one item bought.

The only way around it for me has been to message seller asking them to send a text to my mobile & once that is done I can reply t their message & send them my email address for sending an invoice direct from paypal. I have no problem logging into paypal independently & paying for multiple items sellers invoice me for.

Ebay is supposed to be trying to find out the cause of the trouble I'm experiencing.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
