Boxing Day house-hunters

Some EAs are saying that Boxing Day is a really popular day for buyers to brows online on rightmove etc.

I'm wondering, of those who go on to book viewings, whether more than usual are time-wasters or whether the Christmas holiday week really is a time for genuine buyers?

Given the effort in prepping for a viewing, and that there are other things to do over Christmas, I'm not sure I want viewings booked for that week unless it really is one of the best weeks of the year.

Any opinions?

Kind of makes sense, Boxing Day is the one day of the year most people can be guaranteed to be lazing about the house too stuffed with food to be bothered to get up and go out. Plus the TV is rubbish...so everyone on the house will be sat on the sofa on their phones/iPads browsing Boxing Day sales/rightmove etc whilst scrummaging through the quality street tin trying to avoid the toffees.

But whether the majority will actually want to go on serious viewings the week between xmas and NYE is another thing...most people will probably have some time off work so I guess it's possible.

Some EA's say water runs uphill....

I wouldn't want to deal with any individual who's on RM on Boxing day. They're either majorly pi55ed off with the MIL or unhinged generally.

Having said that, at least they're not knocking the hell out of anyone at the Next tat "sale"....
  • Our house went on the market a couple of days before Christmas. It was convenient in a way because I was off work so we had time for viewings. We had one couple who wantes to view in Boxing Day but I said no; we weren't home that day but had we been I would still have said no. Christmas Eve was close enough for me!
We had another guy who wanted to view on New Year's Day but there was no way I was going to be in any state to see real people!

Done exactly this. Had a BBQ and our friends decided to buy our house off us because they loved it and how it works. We complete on Wednesday!
  • I wouldn't worry. The stats show more people go on Rightmove, but it's not as if a person in a position to buy a house isn't looking throughout December but then suddenly starts to look on Boxing Day and rings up to make viewings the next day. The increase in hits doesn't equate to more viewings - it's just people looking to see what's available and helps them decide what they're going to do in 2017 in general.

You'll get more people looking through estate agents windows on their Christmas walk as well, but it doesn't mean agents get loads of viewing requests the next day.

I sold a house when I was alone with a 21/2 year old and a 6 month old with me and there were toys everywhere and general mess and homeliness.

It's not always a spotless lack of personality that sells.

Majority of people will have someone to sell. So browsing is what it is.

Loads of EAs will be closed over the whole festive period anyway.

New Year is usually busier if the weather's okay.
