Aqua card application

Good evening
Yesterday I completed an online application for an Aqua card via the link on MSE. It appeared to go ok but the last message I saw stated that they couldn't give an answer at the moment and would send something in the post shortly. Fair enough I thought. Then this evening I received a text message stating that I was just one step away from getting a card. I followed the link and completed the security questions. I was then prompted to upload an image of my driving licence/passport. Is this usual???
At this point I decided to leave the site without doing as requested. I used to work for a financial institution a few years ago and we would only accept hard originals as proof of ID. Maybe I'm old fashioned but can anyone confirm if this procedure is typical please?
Kind regards
Paul

I have an Aqua card and didnt have to do any of that when I applied about 18 months ago. Son got one about 3 months ago and he just applied online and got an answer straight away. Didnt have to show any ID.0
