Stung for cash handling fee

Hi there,

I've just purchased some money from Travelex as they give a reasonable rate. I used my new Nat West credit card as I took advantage of their balance transfer.

Because Travelex have put it down as CASH, Nat West have stung me for £7.50 cash handling fee! It's not like I used the CC to withdraw money out the cashpoint and I'm sure I didn't get this charge last year using my debit card.

I fear that there's little I can do about it, but pre-purchasing the cash by CC seemed the easiest option.

What a crock is all I can say.

This is normal practice as you have obtained cash with the card. Also you will be charged interest from the date of the transaction at the cash rate which is about 25% apr.
Because you have already used your card for a 0% balance transfer you will be paying interest on this cash advance for as long as the 0% offer lasts due to your card repayments going towards the 0% balance first.
Debit cards dont charge cash handling fees but some may have a foreign currency fee.

They deliberatley hide it really well in the t+c so it's not really your fault even if you did read them
  • Thanks Napoleon. I do feel a bit of a berk, and I'm now having to balance transfer the lot out and back in again. An expensive lesson well learned.

    No it's not!
You could say everything is hidden away if you don't read the T&Cs.

In what way is it deliberately hidden?
