Carpets/vinyl - free fitting

I am thinking about having Vinyl fitted to my bathroom; wc; on suite and kitchen and then carpets to the rest of the house.
I visited two local shops yesterday and here was the best quote:
Carpet: http://www.unitedcarpetsandbeds.com/sunrise-almond-795
Vinyl: http://www.unitedcarpetsandbeds.com/luna-535-gallerie
Fitting: £350
The price includes uplifting the old carpets and vinyl.
Alternatively I could pay £610 for underlay and then the fitting would be free.
My only concern is the fitting charges. Is there anywhere that offers free fitting? I did a basic Google search and House of Frasier appear to do it, however you have to buy underlay.

Fitting is always going to be incorporated in the price, it's just a marketing thing.
Just keep comparing. Like for like product will help!
This is the wrong board, by the way. It belongs on the In My Home (including DIY) BoardEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

A business is always going to have costs. Fitting is done by an actual human who needs to be paid. There are two ways to achieve this - either the shop charges separately for fitting, or they charge a high enough price for the carpet/vinyl to cover it. (bearing in mind they will have had to have bought the carpet to sell on)
Sometimes it can be cheaper to look up a mobile carpet fitter, who will bring samples to you to choose from. Their costs are lower as they don't have showrooms. When I had my last bathroom done I had decided on the flooring and asked the local mobile chap if he could get it and he did.0 -
As others have said, it's the total price that matters.
No point getting free fitting from HofF if they charge more for the same carpet!
Unless you will be moving in the next couple of years, don't skimp on underlay - a good underlay is important!
If I were you I'd choose the carpet/vynel you want first. Get the name of the manufacturer and specific product then ring /go round saying "I want * xxx carpet with yyy underlay for 4 rooms, sizes blah blah, and
* xxx vynel wih yy underlay for 3 bathrooms, sizes blah blah
What is the total fully fitted cost?"
Try a coupleof mobile fitters.
You can also buy the underlay, carpets, vynel yourself online delievred to you, and then just get a carpet fitter in for the day. May be cheaper.
ut the starting point is deciding what youwant0 -
Go for an independent trader (ask for recommendations). They will do the same job much cheaper.0

Or you could order it online and get an independent fitter to fit it for you. I have done just that. But....... Be careful as a 4m roll of carpet is big and heavy (depending on quality!) and if you live in a flat or need it to go upstairs to be stored until it's fitted have someone to help you! I learnt from bitter experience.0
