How much should I be paying for car insurance?

Hi there,
I am a 25 year old woman who got her licence in October and I'm looking at comprehensive car insurance with my dad (24yrs driving experience with his own car) as a named driver. The quotes are around £1000 if I make the excess high. Is this normal? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Seems reasonable for an inexperienced driver without any no claims.

Yes it looks well in the ball park (towards the cheap end!) for a brand new licence holder with no NCD.

Have you done all the shopping round as mentioned in the MSE car insurance article?

We paid £620 for my 19 year old son as the main driver. My 25 years no claims helps, but it depends most probably on area and of course the car. No black box either.
  • Yes, I've been on all the comparison sites and the separate providers (who are more expensive).

Ours is with LV. Have you already got a car? You almost have to buy your car specifically aimed at low insurance. Changing car is sometimes worth it. Moving house is a bit drastic.

Get your own car and own insurance, you maybe able to get it cheaper.

I got it slightly cheaper for my daughter who is younger than you. But you need to see which car is cheaper for you to insure.

Previously it was Fiat Seicento's and Daewoo Matiz's and cars with sub 1 litre engines etc. This time around its cars with 1300 or 1400cc engines. With the smaller engines cars being dearer.
