hey sorry if this sounds a little dumb, but i am not the most computer/internet savvy person. i am just curious i have many passwords on various internet sites which i haven't written down or saved and i want to know the best way to transfer them to a new laptop.
currently the passwords and any security details are remembered so when i log into a site the password will automatically be entered. what is the best case scenario for this? ideally i would like to set up my new laptop, connect to internet and the passwords stay remembered by the sites, but not sure if it's that simple.

If you use firefox, password exporter is very easy to use. Install it on both pcs and use a flash drive to move the passwords.0

Equally, if you are using Firefox then transferring your profile to the new machine will include your saved passwords, without the need for additional software.

Equally, if you are using Firefox, you can use MozBackup http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ to back up and restore all your mozilla stuff.0

I use Lastpass which is free for the standard version. This allows you to install on any computer etc and it will have all your passwords. The only one you need to remember is the master password0

I use password exporter.
Also I export it as a CSV file and *DON'T* import it
(Trust me! their is a method to the madness!)
After nearly 10 years their is a lot of old, unused, defunct and just plain mangled entires in my password list!
So instead of importing all that junk I just keep the csv handy and open it in a text editor every time I need a new password.
So my +4000 password list !(Yup it was that bad!!!) is now down to a manageable +200 entries.
And i still have the old CSV if i ever come across an old site i need access to...
And since it's in a CSV it's easy to stuff it into a simple database and do a few checks like :
"How many sites use the same password?"
"How many passwords do I need to change because they use the same login details?"
"How many sites have multiple entries?"Laters

This didn't work for me. It moved my bookmarks but not the passwords.Equally, if you are using Firefox then transferring your profile to the new machine will include your saved passwords, without the need for additional software.

Setup a Firefox sync account and you can set it to automatically sync history, bookmarks, passwords, preferences, add-ons and tabs to Firefox on all your other devices.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Not sure why that would be, as the instructions say, passwords are included in the backed up profile. It certainly worked for me the last time I did it (although as J B suggests, I've also used MozBackup which also works well).0
