Question about delivery of American Fridge freezer.

I'm looking to buy an American Fridge freezer, nothing too fancy just a basic one around about £500.
My question is about the delivery of it, can anyone recommend somewhere that they have had one from that will help with getting it into the house and put in place.
My front door doesn't open fully so will probably need to be taken off, so I would need them to do that and to replace it after and maybe also my passage door.
Some of the reviews I have read about delivery have not been very good even when paying for delivery and installation, one where they took the front door off then refused to put it back on.
I'm unable to do it myself so want to get the job done right.
Thanks.

Be careful, some say they will remove & replace doors - they mean the fridge/freezer doors not house doors!

Correct, fridge doors removed not house ones.
  • Mine was delivered into the kitchen via the back door - is this an option? Through the front door would have been an awful lot more difficult. The fridge and freezer doors had to be taken off before it could come through the back door, but the delivery men did replace them before they left. They also put it into the place that I wanted. This was Knowhow, who deliver Curry's products.

Back doors are almost always wider than front doors to allow for the delivery of white goods . Do you have a back door?

Yes I have a back door that could be an option, it would mean going up a lane, down a narrow path and 3 large steps but should be possible.

    Thanks.

I had measured my kitchen door frame coming in from the hall to the millimetre and was sure it would fit but be a close shave - when the guys delivered it they just took the F/F door handles off and it went in with loads of room to spare.

I just measured both doors and the front door is wider, it's 34" and the back door is 30".
So would most companies make sure it was placed in the kitchen then, even if they had to take the fridge doors off.
I ask because on the appliance direct website it says fridge freezers are doorstep or garage delivery only.

Don't buy it from there then, if you can't get it into the house yourself . . .

edit: They're actually very easy to move, I've moved house twice since getting one, and done myself both times. They're not as heavy as they look.
Never had to take the doors off (on mine it'd only be a 5 min job anyway)
Bubble wrap, thick cardboard, pair of sack wheels and a piece of thick carpet. Helps if you happen to have a big van to put it in though, . . ;) (when your moving house)

Is your front door a upvc one? If so, it takes 5 seconds to remove it!

If you can't do it yourself then you'll have to buy from someone who does install or get a handyman to do it. Have you checked with small local retailers or someone in the Euronics group, they are usually more customer orientated?

You'll have to check sizes of the model you want, to see if it will fit. Mine is about 24" without the door & about 32" with, but they vary. When I worked for Hotpoint in the dim & distant past we used to carry a piece of cardboard the size of a fridge/freezer so we could see if it would go through all the doors & around all the bends in a house.
