Car insurance question.

I've had my car insurance with Direct line for just over a year now. I have just turned 21 and was wondering if my premium will go down? I did a quote on their website on it was £20 cheaper per month when i was 21. If it doesn't go down and i have to wait till april to renew, can i cancel my exsisting insurance and take out a new policy to save me the £20 a month
Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:

Mine didn't go down significantly when I turned 21 or 25.

£20 isn't worth changing policies IMHO - the cancellation charge from Direct Line would probably cancel out the saving anyway.

Edit: Sorry I misread your post. £20 per month would prob make it worth it.

If you cancel part way through the term you will not get this years NCD increase.

The premium reduction will happen when you renew, the quote is fixed from the time you took out the policy, so when you were 20.

Hopefully Direct Line will not have loads of cancellation fees applicable, probably best to give them a call and see what cancellation fees apply and work it out.

No claims discount build up might make more of a reduction to your premium than age does though.

  • I have just cancelled my policy and taken out a new one. It works out £223 cheaper a year and saves me £20 a month. The fee was one months premium £69 and there is no added extras for paying by direct debit.
    Thank you for the replies.

did you take the automatic renewal quote from them?
as if you had checked online, you would have got it cheaper.

directline send out renewals, but dont give any discount, the past couple of years i have renewed but via an online quote
