Hillarys Blinds- shockingly poor

Options
Ordered blinds with them, a week later received a call telling me a couple weren't in stock, gave me a few options, said I would speak to the wife, so emailed them, nothing. Called a week later, knew nothing about the email, so further delay.

On day of fitting, get a message at work telling me Hillarys had made an error and would not be able to fit, waited 2 weeks, he came back, admitted he'd measured wrong, that was the problem. Whilst fitting to my UPVC, he cracked a pane of glass. This was after he told me he was using parts from B&Q as he'd ordered the wrong ones from Hillarys. Also, asked me if I knew a carpenter, as the valance wasn't going to fit properly, so would have looked bad anyway. He called Hillarys and left a message. I asked him to leave before he caused any more damage.

The next day, I sent Hillarys an email, outlining all of the issues with photos. Had no response for days, so called, knew nothing about it. Asked for someone senior to call, was promised after 3, so they call at 2.55! Left me a message telling me what they were going to do, but nothing about £620 of my money they had, so had to call back. Was spoken to rudely and was on the phone for 30 minutes, mostly on hold.

Was asked to sort a glazier myself and they would send their hole filling company round. Had to chase them about contact with the company twice. Sorted the window, booked a day, let Hillarys know, said they would send a cheque out. Two weeks later, no cheque, glazier coming next day. Called Hillarys to find out what was happening, was told the cheque was with the directors, when I told the lady that they had known for 2 weeks when I needed the cheque she curtly responded 'what do you expect me to do? Knock on the director's door.'

I asked for a call from her manager about her attitude, was promised this would happen, that was 5 weeks ago. Have been posting on social media, asking when the call will come- sometimes they say they have lost my number, sometimes they have left me messages, no they haven't. Today I was told that the manager will call you for the 'final time,' Well he didn't.

There are so many people who are having the same problems, from poor workmanship to non-contact from customer services and management. I'd urge anyone to steer clear of this company.

I worked for Hillarys for several years but it has since changed ownership. They operate on the same principle as couriers by using local 'Agents' throughout the country who are paid on commission only. These are people with no previous training whatsoever, they are given a few hours training on how to sell, measure and fit blinds and there you go 'expert fitters'! Steering clear of the company is almost impossible as all the Agents go by different names advertised in the same local newspapers, you think they are not Hillarys but they are actually Hillarys Agents. Hillarys itself is a manufacturing company, they make the blinds to fit so are dependant on the Agents measurements being correct to make the blinds. Sounds like your Agent really was a novice, the Head Office service sounds appalling and much worse than when I worked there. I don't understand why they have £620 of your money as you pay after blinds are fitted, was that a deposit? Try writing to The Managing Director it always got a response when I worked there, but as I say it has changed ownership.

They insisted on full payment on ordering and yes, the adviser was new, from discussion whilst fitting and his reaction when he broke the window, wasn't the first time he has messed up.

I've noted today that they have taken down all of my Facebook posts, obviously don't like the bad publicity.
  • A few years ago we used Hillary's and were very satisfied, so used them again when we moved two years ago. Don't like the quality, so won't ever use them again.

I've just sent a long email to the CEO, I'll let you know if I get a reply.

It worked, not an email directly from the CEO, but from a manager apologising like crazy; all I wanted, not sure why this couldn't have been the case in the first place.

I used to work for them a few years back as well; answering the phones in their head office. They were a nightmare then as well; sounds like not much has changed.
