Virgin Media Refer A Friend

Hi everyone, I just picked this up off our intranet forum: I don't know if this is the correct forum to post it - please feel free to move if it not. (I work for VirginMedia but don't have any personal gain in this, just seems like a good opportunity. If it's deemed as a free advert then that's not how it's intended, but feel free to remove)

"We're giving our customers the chance to make some money, just for spreading the word about their Virgin Media digital home services... all they need to do is Connect a Friend....£30 for the existing customer. £30 for their friend. Payable to both as soon as the new customer has paid their first bill."

(Also know that VM isn't the favourite cable company in the world...)

After some of the worst Customer service I've experienced from a company over the last few months (and their indian call centres seem to be getting worse) it would certainly cost them more than £30 for me to want to refer someone to join them :D

What kind of information will we need to give for the person who has referred us?
  • I also wouldn't recommend Virgin Media even if they paid me. Last month I gave them details to set up a direct debit, which appears to have been set up correctly as it shows on my online banking. However, they've decided not to take any payment this month, and yesterdy I got a letter from a debt collection agency acting on their behalf chasing me for £15. I paid the balance immediately (straight to Virgin, not the DCA) but I'm annoyed that they set the DCA on me so quickly, for such a small sum, and when the arrears were due to their incompetence. I shall be sending them a written complaint.

If anyone who's dealing with their debts doesn't want to be chased by a DCA ever again then steer clear of Virgin.

I'm not surprised that Virgin are offering incentives for people to join them - everyone I know is leaving them so they must be haemorrhaging customers!

Poor customer service seems to be the main reason.

I watched a whole 2 hour film, and did a full manicure and pedicure whilst on hold with Virgin Media, and when I finally got through, a very rude welshman said he wouldn't speak to me because I sounded annoyed.

And then he hung up.

In total I spent about 72 hours on hold with Virgin Media - and all to no avail.

We had no reliable working internet with Virgin Media for the entire year we were contracted to them.

    I'd never touch 'em again.

I kind of hold a grudge when I've paid out hundreds of pounds for a service that didn't work, and when I try to get something done about it they keep me on hold for hours, then they're rude to me and / or hang up!

They say they can send me out an engineer in 3 weeks and I arrange to take the morning off cos he'll be with me by 12 noon they say.

At 1pm I go to work and at 1:30 he pops a card through the door to say he'll be charging me for this visit because I wasn't in.

The next time, another 3 weeks later -after being on hold for several hours to arrange it obviously - he arrives within the allotted time but shrugs and says "well it should be working" and goes away again.

The next time ( 6 weeks later because of high demand and because it was hard to find a spare couple of hours to be on hold that week) A different guy turns up and says he can't do anything because "the service is down in this area today."

    No !!!!!! sherlock!

I can't go on any more but you get the picture!

I didn't watch Big Brother this year cos it was sponsored by Virgin Media and I knew I'd want to kick the telly everytime I saw their logo!

Ok deep breaths...calm....go to my happy place...

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • To be fair, a lot of employees feel just as good about VM as you do Jacks...It's not an especially nice place to be at the moment.

  • I hate Virgin, so thanks for the notice but I'll pass. I've been wanting to get away Virgin media since Branson stepped in. When my service was with NTL (I know it's the same company, just mainly a name change) I couldn't thank the staff enough for their help. I called twice in the one year to explain everything had to get cut off and I was leaving because I ound myself out of work and unable to pay. I was given free phone line rental, free TV (base pack) and 1/2 price broadband for two months on each occassion. This REALLY helped me out, alot. I was never late on paying my bill and I never incurred any fees.

With virgin I called to explain that my payment would be made late one month (again, out of work). I was told that I'd get charged for the late payment, when I questioned why that would be the case, after all I was clalling to explain the situation, I was then told "It's not MY responsibility to make sure you pay your bill on time, madam. That's your responsibility".

Anyway, she was right, but on that occasion I realised the company I used to love wasn't the same anymore. Besides, I can't stand Branson, I'm not best fond of the multi-company (can't think of the correct word) types. That goes for Stellios too.

Rant over, Tea and toast time.
