Hi all, Right im one of these caring people and ive had so much help in the past that i really enjoying passing on the good will or paying it forward as its called. Im looking for ways to do it this year. In fact i have just this second emailed my local hospital (where my son was actually born) as i have loads of fleecey type material that i dont need and im thinking of making it into baby blankets and ive offered them there if they'd like them. Ive also saved enough that hopefully i can make some lap blankets ot give to the local retirement home for the elderly to keep them warm too. Anyone else have any other charitable ideas?? or nice things they've done or would like to do to pay it forward???? im looking for suggestions............................................................................................................................i also forgot to add that i kind of need some help from fellow members too - this is going to sound ridiculous i know but bear with me (not actually sure im allowed to ask this or not) right you know milk bottles with the plastic lids liek you find in supermarkets - right well my mums friend is in a wheelchair and he asked the council if they could help him get or provide him with a new wheelchair as his is giving up and breaking slowly, and they said no, but they made a condition with him that if he could collect his own body weight in milk bottle tops (this guy is like 14st!!!!!) then they would provide him with a wheelchair - how sick is that?????? So now guys if anyone drinks lots of milk could you all possibly keep the milk bottle tops and send them too me - i know its an odd request but a worth while one!!! we've all gone through various companies to try and help but they all say no as jsut donatign a wheelchair to soemone wouldnt get them enough publicity and they'd lose money etc.
Time to find me again

Hi, I collected the plastic milk bottle tops for a lady at the doctors surgery. She asked if she could put a bucket in reception for people to drop the lids in and she came to collect them every few days, maybe this is something you could do? I will glady forward my lids onto you.Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:0

Are you sure this is not a hoax! I have heard this many a time but I have never seen the details of the actual recycling company that will pay cash for milk bottle tops. See http://www.reducereuserecycle.co.uk/where_can_I_recycle/plastic_milk_bottle_tops.php
If your mum's friend needs a new wheelchair then they should be contacting the NHS not the council. It the NHS that deals with wheelchairs. He could go through his GP. The CAB may also be albe to help.
I understand that you are trying to help but I would hate for people to be wasting their time and money when it could be a hoax.
If for some reason they can't get one through the NHS then local charities would be better place to start - Lions clubs, Rotary, Round Table etc.0 -
At GHS Recycling in Portsmouth we run a scheme where we will take any amount of milk bottle tops and keep this on file and let you know every 2 months how your total is mounting up. We pay £25 for every 500 kgs on a pro rata basis (minimum payout is on 500 kilos)
At present we have 30 groups across the south of England who are collecting for 16 different charities.
It is a slow process BUT it is another way of being greener and it is something for nothing!!

Not sure if you've thought of this but have you asked any local cofee shops to save their lids? I know our local neros get through literally hundreds a day and they save the tops up as they go and put them in a bucket on the side seperate to the bottles, though I'm not quite sure what for (possibly nothing!) and I guess other coffee shops/cafes must get through a similar number... might be worth asking at least!
The Red Cross can often help with loans of medical equipment too.0 -
I agree with Dusty Moth.Try asking in local factoys and offices all use tea/coffe and probably have canteens.I think they could be quite willing if you offer to collect regulaly.Oh and you could ask your local council offices if thy would like to join in:rotfl:Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0
